As working citizens anxiously await their W-2’s in the mail from their employer for tax year 2017. Many rumors start, many questions raised about how people file, when can they file, what do they need to file, and most importantly when will they receive their Tax Refund Check(Deposit). As a second year certified taxpreparer I get to see and hear all kinds of stories and situations and experience the changes directly and communicate them to you the tax payer.
First thing first as a taxpayer you should be aware of your tax situation and keep records. Secondly wait for all your tax documents from your social security (if required to file), W-2’s from your employer and or 1099 forms from independent contracting, retirement, unemployment. There are several ways to file your federal tax return, you can always do it yourself but why chance shorting yourself out of some money(online). Choose a reliable company or independent person whom you trust.
If you havent heard in recent years people would claim children whom aren’t theirs but the IRS is cracking down on the trick as well. January 23 the IRS opens to start accepting efile returns and expect 7-10 days for processing, but if your are a taxpayer who qualifies for EIC(Earned income credit) or CTC(Child tax credit) those returns are delayed to be released on February 27,2018. The IRS will be checking those returns more closely.
